A stormy camping trip

The Augustine family has returned from another awesome camping weekend in Kananaskis. It started out rather stormy and wet. I have forgotten how loud thunder sounds - echoing through the valley with towering mountains on either side. Unfortunately, we did have a couple of thunder storms during the weekend, but we did manage a fantastic hike with Rory in his new backpack carrier.

Our drive into the storm

It was a big test for our gear - tent and roof top carrier. It was a little nerve racking driving with rains pelting down - wondering if we would be putting up a saturated tent or heading back home!

But all was good - everything held up beautifully.

The skies cleared on Saturday morning and we headed out to the Canadian Mount Everest hike. A fantastic hike with just a little elevation gain and gorgeous views from the top of both Upper and Lower Kananaskis Lake. It was a little hazy, but still rather beautiful. It was Rory's first summit and first trip in his new back pack carrier! He loved it and even fell asleep during the hike.

Our summit photo.

The view

After the hike the clouds began to roll in again, but not before mum and Rory had some time int he hammock. Lots of giggles and smiles again!

Mum and Rory snuggled up in the hammock.

The mornings were cool and damp. (I love camping mornings - especially the hot steaming coffee that Linds whips up every morning). Rory enjoyed being cozied up while mum and dad had their breakfast.

Snug as a bug!!

Despite the stormy and cool weather, it was another successful camping trip. Rory again did awesome and I think has quite the outdoorsman inside him. He hardly slept at all during the day - so curious and watching everyone and everything around him.
