Rory's first camping adventure

The Augustine family has safely returned from their first family camping trip in the mountains. We ventured to Kananaskis County, about 90 minutes west of Calgary and had two nights at Lower Lakes Campground. The weather was fantastic - fabulous blue skies and warm sunshine. The nights turned out to be rather on the chilly side, but we survived.




Rory loved the outdoors, especially our hammock where he spent a lot of time chilling out with mum and dad.

We went on many hikes on stroller friendly paths, one of which led to a local ice cream shop - a very welcome treat!

Rory enjoyed his tummy time while mum and dad packed up the campsite.

The mornings were fresh, but Rory was snuggled up warm while mum and dad had their coffee and oatmeal. He quite happily watched the trees sway in the breeze and chatted away to the passing squirrels.

Kananaskis is grizzly country, so we were careful to keep food out of the tent - though technically we were food. We didn't see any of the large furry beasts, but managed to spot many Mountain Big Horn Sheep, deer, coyotes, ground squirrels (who were quick to pick up any dropped or unattended food from the picnic tables, especially our trail mix) and friendly chipmunks.

Our first family camping adventure was great and we can't wait to do it again!!

Wild Weather!

It has been a wild weather afternoon. Wicked thunderstorms have kept me amused for the good part of an hour. Lots of lightening, thunder, rain, wind and hail. I think I've found my new calling - a storm chaser!!

Rory has been getting better and better at his Jolly Jumping and his tummy time.

Rory has begun to roll during his tummy time. We have also found him on the opposite sides and ends of his crib in the morning.

Rory has become quite the chatterbox - not sure where he gets that from!

Trial run

Rory's first 'camping' experience

We had a trial run of a camping experience with Rory this weekend. Nothing too outrageous, as we are amateurs now. We camped out in my sister's backyard, for if things went horribly wrong then we were not too far from the safety of a warm house. No more backpack tenting for us. Oh no we've even purchased a family tent which we could probably set up our old two person tent in two or three times! For one more little person we sure had a whole lot of stuff!! A little different than our pre-baby experiences, but an adventure just the same!

Rory was all for this new venture with mum and dad. He was quite chilled out as usual, as mum and dad tried to put up the tent. I'm sure he was wondering what the heck we were doing.


Rory took quite the liking to his new 'room' and settled down for the night without a fuss. That was until some fireworks startled him awake.
We are happy to say all went fairly smoothly and Rory seemed to enjoy his first camping experience, as did a tired mum and dad.



Rory was all tuckered out after the night sleeping under the stars (and even a few drops of rain). We are now planning a camping trip to the mountains. Look out Rockies here come the Augustine's!!

3 Months Old

The 'Rorster' is 3 months old!!

It is crazy how quickly he is growing and how fast time is going. Rory is turning into quite the little man. He very much enjoys sitting in his 'Bumbo' chair while mum and dad have their dinner, chatting away to himself on the play mat and to us while on the change pad. And he loves Sophie the giraffe.

We dressed Rory up for his special 3 month milestone in an awesome outfit from our lovely friends in the UK (and from our favourite store - NEXT).

Rory is sporting jean overalls (or dungarees) with a safari animal onesie.

Another accomplishment for Rory is his Jolly Jumper skills. It was a slow start with lots of smiles and spins on one foot, but he has managed a few jumps and loves it!

Rory has also been working extremely hard on his tummy time skills. He has even on occasion rolled himself back onto his back. Although I have a feeling this wasn't an intentional move, more out of frustration.

First visit to the zoo

Rory had a fantastic time at his first visit to the Calgary Zoo. Lindsay, Rory and I met up with some friends from our prenatal class for a the day. We spent many hours wandering through the zoo with the occasional coffee and ice cream break.

I can see that the zoo will be one of our many favourite spots to visit this summer. It's just a quick drive from where we live and a great place to walk around.

Happy Canada Day!!


Rory celebrated his first Canada Day with a delicious BBQ at Auntie Shari's house with the Snider crew and a special visit by Auntie Heather. A huge thank you to Grammie Werkman for the Canada Day gear, it was a big hit for the day!


Rory was practising his 'O Canada' national anthem singing. He definitely has the 'O' part down, but the rest still needs a little work.

It was great afternoon and we all enjoyed some chilling out in the backyard and having a little swing or two.
